Inauguration of the New Women’s Operating Room Complex
In a festive and well-attended event, the Galilee Medical Center this week inaugurated a newly renovated and modernized surgical complex for women’s operating rooms and day hospitalization, spanning approximately 800 square meters. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technological advancements and includes four operating rooms, an upgraded reception area, and a spacious recovery room. During the ceremony, the ribbon was cut at the entrance to the new complex by Prof. Masad Barhoum, Director of the Galilee Medical Center; Prof. Lior Levenstein, Head of the Women’s Health and Maternity Division; and Ms. Raya Strauss Ben-Dror, President of the Friends of Galilee Medical Center Association.
In his remarks, Prof. Barhoum said that this was a day of celebration for the entire medical center, and especially for the Women’s and Maternity Division. He emphasized that the upgraded surgical complex will significantly enhance the patient experience – a central value that guides the medical center’s vision at all times.
Prof. Lior Levenstein noted that a wide variety of procedures will be performed in the new facility, including: Pelvic floor surgeries and uterine prolapse procedures, Onco-gynecological surgeries, Obstetric surgeries, including, various types of cesarean sections, Women's day surgery procedures, Surgical interventions for urinary incontinence, Urogynecological surgeries, such as hysterectomies and VNOTES procedures – a minimally invasive, cutting-edge surgical method for removing the uterus and ovaries through the vaginal canal without abdominal incisions. In addition to the four operating rooms in the new complex, there is a dedicated women’s operating room located within the reinforced maternity wing, primarily designated for emergency surgeries.
The new surgical complex will also serve procedures beyond gynecology, including surgeries from the general surgical departments, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedics (hand surgery), and the Pediatric Urology Unit.
The complex also includes a newly established Mohs laboratory, where plastic surgery procedures for skin lesion removal will be performed.
The Friends of Galilee Medical Center Association also contributed significantly to the renovation and upgrading of the complex. As part of this effort, the association secured a generous donation from the Pichotto family, which funded the renovation of the recovery room, now named in memory of their late mother, Ruth Pichotto (z”l).
