Lifetime Achievement Award for Prof. Masad Barhoum

In a festive and well-attended event held this evening at the Yedioth Ahronoth building, Prof. Masad Barhoum, general director of the Galilee Medical Center, received the Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the "Outstanding Employee" initiative, named in memory of Noah Mozes (z”l).

Following his selection as one of the 2024 Honorees of the Israeli Civil Service, a judging committee headed by former Civil Service Commissioner Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz recommended Prof. Barhoum as a candidate for Yedioth Ahronoth’s Outstanding Employee Award.

The purpose of the award is to strengthen and promote various sectors of Israeli society by highlighting the achievements of exceptional individuals. After reviewing his candidacy, the selection committee announced that Prof. Barhoum was chosen as the recipient of the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award.

In its reasoning, the committee noted that Prof. Barhoum leads a bold vision to transform the Galilee Medical Center – located just 9 kilometers from Israel’s northern border – into a modern and evolving academic and surgical hub. The center serves the northern region with an emphasis on humanity and compassion, professionalism, quality, and accessibility at the highest standards.

The committee also emphasized that under Prof. Barhoum’s leadership, the Galilee Medical Center stands as a remarkable model of shared society, both among the medical staff and the patients, representing all religions and communities: Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Druze, and Bedouin.

In his remarks, Prof. Barhoum stated that he sees himself as a public servant, committed to advancing not only the medical center but also Israel’s periphery and public healthcare system as a whole.

Prof. Barhoum said:
“I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious award. This recognition belongs to our 3,300 dedicated employees.
Our guiding principle is: ‘Treating one another with humanity’
Indeed, our medical center is built on a foundation of professional, high-quality management, connected to ethical, dedicated, and committed staff who meet every challenge and turn adversity into an opportunity for growth.
What fills me with special pride is that all our efforts are directed toward a most noble mission: saving lives, preventing illness, healing, and rehabilitation.”
