The Medical Research Institute at the Galilee Medical Center was established in 2002 as a research laboratory and has become an integral part of the center, focusing on improving and advancing the quality of medical services. In 2018, the institute moved to a modern and advanced facility located in the western part of the Galilee Medical Center, marking a new phase in its expansion. The institute now serves as both a research center and an educational center, offering consultation, training, and opportunities for collaborative research. Today, the institute is one of the largest and most advanced centers in the field and plays a significant role in conducting medical research throughout the Galilee region. The institute supports a variety of research types, including epidemiological, basic, and clinical research, conducted by medical students and physician-researchers. The institute also supports research projects carried out by medical students, residency physicians, and biomedical science students from the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine. Many of these students complete their clinical training and studies in various departments and specialties at the Galilee Medical Center. The Medical Research Institute is experiencing rapid expansion and growth, with additional units and departments within the medical center seeking to participate in the institute’s research activities. The ongoing success of the institute’s researchers encourages and justifies further expansion, bringing new opportunities for exploration or the extension of existing research. However, the current laboratory is limited and struggling to accommodate the growing needs of the existing researchers due to space constraints. Completing the second floor of the institute will help address the expanding needs of research and provide an advantage in positioning the institute as a leader in medical research in northern Israel.
